James Caulfeild (soldier)

Lieutenant-General James Caulfeild (30 January 1782 – 4 November 1852)[1] was a British soldier and Liberal party politician.[2]

Background

Caulfeild was the son of the Venerable John Caulfeild, Archdeacon of Kilmore, grandson of the Hon. Tony Caulfeild, younger son of William Caulfeild, 1st Viscount Charlemont. His mother was Euphemia (née Gordon).

Military and political career

Caulfeild was a Lieutenant-General in the British Army. He also sat briefly as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Abingdon from July 1852 until his death later the same year.[2]

Family

Caulfeild married firstly Letitia, daughter of Lieutenant-General Hugh Stafford, in 1814. After her death in August 1826 he married secondly Annie Rachel (née Blake). There were children from both marriages. Caulfeild died in November 1852, aged 70. His second wife died in May 1890.
